On Polarity of Crinum Pollen - Tube Growth in Situ Culture

Abstract

|
Pollen from Crinum asiaticum were grown in situ culture of cut-stylar parts on artificial synthetic media, and showed a similar extent of positive growth between pollinations when pollen were placed on originally upper part and when placed on. the lower part. The growth started and directed from the point where pollen were first introduced. This was further demonstrated with pollen-tube growth in capillary glass tube fitted with the media.
Thus the present results provide the facts that pollen can be grown in or out of stylar column without having polarity.
